Held on October 19, 2022, the national language seminar filled with speakers from UGM and UNDIP took the title “Linguistics and Language Dynamics”. At the seminar, Dr. M. Suryadi, M. Hum. who is the head of the Master of Literature Study Program delivered a comprehensive discussion on forensic linguistics.
On that occasion, Dr. M. Suryadi, M. Hum. mentions that forensic linguistics has a strategic role. Beginning his description of the definition, Dr. M. Suryadi, M. Hum. then presented his presentation on the main tasks of forensic linguistics and an empirical explanation of the practice of forensic linguistics related to law.
In his presentation, Dr. M. Suryadi, M. Hum. mentioned that the ability possessed in forensic linguistics allows the role of linguists in helping legal matters. From here, forensic linguistics works as a tool for legal personnel by utilizing language as data. This then demonstrates the potential use of forensic linguistics for further study. Currently, in the development of the digital world, phenomena that arise from the presence of online media often involve forensic linguistic studies in it. Thus, the correlation between linguistics and the legal realm becomes essential even though it is only limited as a decision-making tool.
Not only that, Dr. M. Suryadi, M. Hum. mention the important role of forensic linguistics held by experts. Because the decisions of these experts, based on forensic linguistics, have an impact on the fate of a person or many people. Therefore, according to him, the important value of the position of forensic linguistics is in the midst of the public sphere.
