In an effort to strengthen alumni connections while encouraging critical discourse on the role of women in literature, the Master’s Program in Literary Studies at the Faculty of Humanities, Diponegoro University (FIB Undip) is hosting a National Alumni Networking Webinar. This time, the theme will be “Media and Ulama for the Advancement of Women in Literary Works”, a relevant and important topic to discuss amidst the development of media and the dynamics of women’s roles in society.
This webinar will take place on Friday, May 9, 2025, from 12:20 to 15:15 WIB, via the Zoom Meeting platform. Participants can join through the link https://bit.ly/MediadanUlama with Meeting ID: 969 3168 2881 and Passcode: FIB2025. The event is open to the public and can be attended by students, alumni, academics, and the general public who have an interest in gender issues, media, literature, and Islam. Registration can be done through the official link at bit.ly/RegistMediaDanUlama.
The main speaker for this event is Dr. Yulfira Riza, M.Hum., from the Faculty of Adab and Humanities at UIN Imam Bonjol Padang. Dr. Yulfira Riza is an academician who is actively researching women’s literature, gender equality, and the involvement of religious leaders in supporting women’s empowerment in the public and cultural spheres. In this session, she will discuss in-depth how the strategic roles of media and ulama can support the advancement of women, especially in the literary world.
This theme was chosen because, even today, the role of women in literature is often marginalized or dominated by patriarchal narratives. Through this discussion, participants will be encouraged to explore how media can be an effective tool in amplifying the voices and struggles of women. On the other hand, the involvement of ulama as community leaders and moral guides is expected to provide an inclusive religious perspective that supports women to create and express themselves.
This webinar will also serve as a forum for dialogue that brings together academic, social, and religious perspectives in one space for discussion. In addition to expanding knowledge, this event aims to build networks between alumni of the Master’s Program in Literary Studies at FIB Undip and the broader academic community, as well as strengthen the contribution of academics in driving social change through cultural and literary approaches.
It is hoped that through this event, a wider understanding will be created about the importance of female representation in literature and how collaboration between media and religious figures can create a more just and equal space for women to express their identities and ideas.
With a spirit of collaboration and empowerment, the Master’s Program in Literary Studies at FIB Undip invites all academic communities and the public to participate in this webinar as a small but meaningful step toward supporting the advancement of women in culture and literature. Don’t miss the opportunity to be part of this inspiring and constructive discussion for collective progress.
