Semarang — The Master’s Program in Literature, Faculty of Humanities, Universitas Diponegoro (Undip), successfully held an international academic program through the Undip Global Classroom on Tuesday, June 2, 2026. Conducted online via Microsoft Teams, the event featured distinguished scholars from Australia, Malaysia, and Italy who shared their expertise on Southeast Asian literature, cultural aesthetics, and contemporary performance arts.
The program was organized as part of the course Literary and Cultural Aesthetics, taught by Dr. Retno Wulandari, who also served as the moderator of the session. The event was attended by graduate students of the Master’s Program in Literature.
The first speaker, Prof. Dr. Pamela Allen from the University of Tasmania, Australia, delivered a presentation entitled Post-New Order Indonesian Literature. In her presentation, Prof. Allen discussed the development of Indonesian literature after the New Order era, highlighting changes in literary themes, the emergence of freedom of expression, and the socio-political dynamics shaping contemporary Indonesian literary works.
The second speaker, Dr. Mohamed Nazreen bin Shahul Hamid from Universiti Utara Malaysia, Malaysia, presented a topic entitled Literary and Cultural Aesthetics of Malay and Indonesian Traditions. His presentation explored the relationship between Malay and Indonesian literary aesthetics through perspectives of culture, identity, history, and contemporary media developments within the Nusantara region.
Meanwhile, Dr. Giulia Sala from the University of Bologna, Italy, delivered a presentation entitled Performance Art and Rituals in Contemporary Bali. Her presentation examined the relationship between performance arts, cultural rituals, and tourism in contemporary Balinese society, including the transformation of traditional performance practices in the modern era.
The Undip Global Classroom was conducted interactively, with enthusiastic participation from the students, who actively engaged in discussions and question-and-answer sessions with the speakers. Through this program, students gained broader international perspectives on Southeast Asian literature, culture, and performance arts from interdisciplinary and cross-cultural viewpoints.
Through initiatives such as the Undip Global Classroom, the Master’s Program in Literature at Universitas Diponegoro continues to strengthen its commitment to international academic collaboration and globally oriented learning experiences.
